2024 New Hampshire Republican Primary LIVE Updates news and results

Welcome to 's live coverage of the New Hampshire presidential primary.

Donald Trump and Nikki Haley are in a duel for the Republican nomination after Ron DeSantis dropped out on Sunday.

Trump enters the Republicans' second White House race with a double-digit lead and is aiming for a repeat of his landslide victory in Iowa.

The Democrats are also holding their first primary election. Joe Biden isn't on the ballot, but his supporters have launched a write-in campaign to ensure he doesn't get embarrassed by long-shot opponents like Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson.

Below are all the key updates on another crucial night in the run-up to the 2024 general election.

Trump's previous record in New Hampshire – and what a victory here could mean

Trump won the New Hampshire Republican primary in his first presidential bid in 2016, but some of his allies lost key races in the midterm elections two years ago.

Haley also must contend with an opponent who is closely aligned with the Republican base and has focused on winning the state so decisively that it would effectively end the competitive phase of the primary.

If successful, Trump would become the first Republican presidential candidate to win open races in Iowa and New Hampshire since both states topped the electoral calendar in 1976, a clear sign that he continues to maintain his grip on the party's most loyal voters.

News channels and the Associated Press predicted the former president as the winner after just 30 minutes.

Ron DeSantis finished second, followed by Nikki Haley in third, before dropping out of the race entirely this weekend.

Vivek Ramasmway paused the campaign shortly after the race was called and endorsed Trump.

Will Nikki Haley be a thorn in Trump's side in New Hampshire?

Donald Trump is aiming for a commanding victory in New Hampshire and securing victory in the first two Republican primaries, making a rematch with US President Joe Biden in November look more likely than ever.

The biggest question is whether Trump's last major rival, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, will be able to capitalize on his lead – or spring an upset straight away.

Ms. Haley has given significant time and money to New Hampshire in hopes of appealing to its notoriously independent-minded electorate.

In initial results released early Tuesday, all six registered voters in the small resort town of Dixville Notch had cast their ballots for Ms. Haley rather than Mr. Trump. The city is the only one in New Hampshire this year to choose to vote at midnight.

The small hamlet of Dixville Notch is the first to vote in the New Hampshire primary

The six registered voters of tiny Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, cast their ballots for Nikki Haley at midnight on Tuesday, giving her a clear lead over former President Donald Trump and all other candidates.

  • The resort was the first place in the country to vote in the 2024 primary election.
  • Voters were outnumbered more than 10 to 1 by reporters from around the world — not to mention a stack of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
  • Dixville Notch has a tradition of first-in-the-nation voting dating back to 1960, with results announced just minutes after midnight.
  • With such a small sample of voters, the results typically do not provide any indication of how an election will turn out. But they arouse curiosity early on.
  • In some previous elections, some other small towns in New Hampshire have also voted at midnight, but this year Dixville Notch went it alone.
