Touching duo

Thanks, Luke Combs! By bringing the song “Fast Car” back to life in 2023, it gave the Grammys an opportunity they didn't miss to invite Tracy Chapman to sing in front of millions of viewers. This rare appearance from Chapman, who hasn't recorded an album since 2008, made for a touching duet. Luke Combs seemed genuinely moved to share the stage with the 59-year-old artist.
Girls rule the roost

They've been around for a few years now, but in 2024, female artists won it all at the Grammys. Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, SZA, Billie Eilish, Karol G, Lainey Wilson and Victoria Monét (photo) all won trophies presented during the televised gala. They dominated the four main categories (album, song, recording and new artist), a win the girls achieved for the third time in five years.

Miley Cyrus reminded everyone that she had exceptional showmanship as she sang her hit “Flowers” (winner of two awards on Sunday night) with the passion of Tina Turner. She accompanied her performance with commentary, asking the artists in the audience why they were acting like they didn't know the song, and even exclaimed, “I just won my first Grammy!” “Irresistible.
Legends celebrated

At the Grammys, legends are eternal. In the afternoon, the Beatles and David Bowie won trophies, and during the TV show, Joni Mitchell sang at the Grammys for the first time at the age of 80. Sitting on a chair, she performed Both Sides Now, with particular support from Brandi Carlile and Montrealer Allison Russell. Later, Billy Joel performed “Turn The Lights Back On,” his first original song in 17 years.
Three Grammy awards, then handcuffs

Winning three Grammy Awards and leaving the party in handcuffs isn't an everyday occurrence. But that's exactly what happened to rapper Killer Mike on Sunday evening. As the star of the evening in the hip-hop category, he won three gramophones, including best rap album for Michael and best rap song for Scientists & Engineers, in particular with André 3000 from the duo OutKast. But shortly after this award, which was presented as part of the pre-ceremony, a video posted on social networks showed him walking in the hallways of the Crypto.com Arena, handcuffed and escorted by police. When asked about the reason for this arrest, the Los Angeles police did not immediately comment.
