Expos alumnus joins Yankees

Former Montreal Expos outfielder Brad Wilkerson was named the New York Yankees’ assistant coach on Monday.

Wilkerson previously served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of Jacksonville baseball program.

The American, now 45, played eight seasons in Major League Baseball, including four at the Expos. He was one of those who survived the move to Washington and played a campaign with the Nationals before playing for the Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays.

The former left-hander averaged .247 throughout his career and hit 500 runs in 972 games. He also hit 122 home runs.
