He switches bus lanes to let a police vehicle pass and receives a hefty fine

A London motorist was fined on January 24 after pulling out of a bus lane to allow a police vehicle to pass him.

He probably thought he was doing well but was severely punished. Stephen James, a 37-year-old London motorist, was recently fined £195 or around €220.

his wrong? Stopping in a bus lane to let a police car pass.

“I saw the van coming and knew I had to do something to help with the situation,” he tells The Sun. They wouldn’t be able to pass quickly, so we had to act. I tried to do it right and I got punished for it.”

A fine upheld on appeal

The 30-year-old thought he had won his case by filing the fine. But the local authorities decided otherwise.

“The rules in London are very clear about entering bus lanes and it is the responsibility of drivers to know and follow them,” they told The Sun.

Finally, “We can see the driver pulling into the bus lane to let the emergency vehicle pass before continuing down the full length of the bus lane when given a chance to get back on the road.”

I’m not sure Stephen James won’t deviate in that way again to let the police pass…
