Norwegian filmmaker Bent Hamer presents his film repertoire in Cuba

The institution reports that Hamer will visit the island to present some titles from his repertoire, including his latest production The Middle Man, based on the second part of the novel Sluk by acclaimed writer Lars Saabye Christensen.

The film, co-produced by Norway, Germany, Denmark and Canada, follows Frank Farrelli as he takes on the task of breaking bad news to the residents of a small United States town called Karmack.

Samples of Hamer’s work also include the film that marked his debut in The Seventh Art: Eggs (1995), which won Best First Feature at the Cannes Film Festival, the first Gilme Prize at the eponymous event in Moscow and FIPRESCI in Toronto won .

Likewise, the selection proposes an approach to the films Historias de cocina (2003), O’ Horten (2007) and Factotum (2005), the latter based on the novel of the same name by Charles Bukowski, which was well received after its premiere and a nomination to the CICAE -Award at Cannes.

The film O’Horten, for its part, marked the Stockholm University’s film and literary theory graduate’s return to comedy and became his most successful and internationally awarded film.

His work also includes the dramatic comedy Un hogar para la Navidad (2010) and 1001 grams, which demonstrate the versatility of the creator, whose career is not only focused on directing feature films, but also extends to the production of short films and documentaries .

The cycle of the Cuban Cinematheque will take place from February 8th to 11th and will be alternated with a selection of ICAIC Latin American news programs created in 1960 by Santiago Álvarez and produced by the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry to present to the world the reality of the Show Island and Latin America.
