The 27-year-old scored his 57th and 58th points of the season in a 4-1 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Morrissey had two assists from Pierre-Luc Dubois and Kyle Connor. The latter was the top scorer for Rick Bowness’s men with three points.

Mark Scheifele also had a great evening at work moving the strings twice.

51 times, the “Blueshirts” bombed the Manitoba team’s goaltender Connor Hellebuyck, who stood solidly throughout the duel, yielding only once to a shot by Vincent Trocheck.

Quebec’s Alexis Lafrenière saw his run of back-to-back games end with at least one goal in two. The New York organization’s first pick of 2020 is having a good time lately with seven points in 10 contests.

A profitable third period for the islanders

The New York Islanders opened the game with three unanswered goals in the third period, defeating the Penguins 4-2 in Pittsburgh.

Falling from the net midway through the last third, ‘Islands’ forward Bo Horvat surprised goalkeeper Tristan Jarry from a tight angle to put everyone back in first place.

Two minutes later, Anders Lee gave his team the lead for the first time in the game. Brock Nelson then completed his double in an empty cage.

Jake Guentzel and Jason Zucker were the only skaters from Mike Sullivan’s roster to put their names in the goal column during that game.

The game marked a return to action for Jarry, who was sidelined for his team’s last nine games with a lower body injury. The British-Colombian stopped 29 of 31 pucks that were sent to him.

Elsewhere, the Islanders have won all three games against the Penguins this season.
