A cause of death has been released for Hayden Panettiere’s younger brother, Jansen Panettiere.
The family released a statement Monday morning showing Jansen died of an enlarged heart.
“While offering little consolation, the coroner reported that Jansen’s sudden death was due to cardiomegaly (enlarged heart) associated with aortic valve complications,” the family told ABC News.
The statement also commemorated the late artist for his charisma, talent and kindness.
“Jansen’s heart was in his eyes and his charm in his bright, engaging smile; his soul in his masterful and insightful paintings and the joie de vivre in his wry wit,” said Jansen’s family, including his mother Lesley Vogel, father Skip Panettiere and sister, “Scream VI” star Hayden.
“His charisma, warmth, compassion for others and creative spirit will live forever in our hearts and in the hearts of everyone he met.”

The 28-year-old was found unresponsive by his friends over Presidents’ Day weekend in New York, according to TMZ.
Jansen’s friends rushed to his apartment on February 19 after he failed to show up during their business meeting. According to the outlet, one of Jansen’s buddies found him “sitting upright in a chair, unresponsive.” The friend called 911 and performed CPR.

At the time, authorities said no foul play was suspected.

While Hayden has yet to publicly comment on her brother’s death, his friend Catherine Michie has paid a touching tribute to her “best friend.”
“Jansen I only met you a year ago but you were my best friend and biggest fan,” she wrote on February 20 along with a photo carousel of their special moments together.

“I will never forget the first time I saw your face and the first things you said to me. Words cannot express the pain of knowing I’ll never hear your laugh again.”
She added: “I hope you find peace and I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you needed me most. The world is better because you were in it. I know that one day we will paint together again. I’ll always be your sugarpop. Someone wakes me up and tells me this is a dream.”
Just days before his death, Jansen shared a photo of Michie smiling for a picture in front of one of his colorful paintings.

Over the years, Jansen shared several photos with his sister on social media. Most recently, the artist posted a picture of the 33-year-old “Scream” star giggling as she cuts her hair.
“Not the first haircut she’s tried to give me,” he captioned the Jan. 24 black-and-white snap.
Following in his sister’s footsteps, Jansen began acting at an early age with projects such as Ice Age: The Meltdown, Even Stevens, Blue’s Clues and Robots.
He even worked with the Nashville grad in the 2004 Disney film Tiger Cruise and the 2005 film Racing Stripes.
