Prince Harry recently spoke openly about his recreational use of psychedelics.
The Duke of Sussex, 38, revealed drugs have helped him deal with his past trauma during an online chat with trauma expert Gabor Maté on Saturday.
“It was cleaning the windshield, removing the filters of life – those layers of filters – it removed everything for me and brought me a sense of relaxation, relief, comfort, a lightness that I was able to hold back for a period of time time,” he shared.
“I started doing it for free and then I realized how good it was for me,” Harry added.
“I would say it’s one of the fundamental parts of my life that has changed me and helped me deal with the trauma and pain of the past.”

“They unleash so much of what we have suppressed.”
Meghan Markle’s husband recently admitted to using other drugs – like cocaine and marijuana – as a teenager in his book Spare, which was published in January.

In the memoir, the king recalled how British tabloids portrayed his father, King Charles III, as “a stressed-out single father dealing with a drug-addicted child” when Harry was 17.
However, the Duke admitted that he was “of course… doing cocaine around that time”.

The father of two wrote that he was first offered the drug “at someone’s country house during a weekend of filming.”
“I was offered a line and I’ve done a few more since then,” Harry previously revealed, not calling drug use “a lot of fun.”
The military pilot said coke though didn’t “do [him] particularly happy”, it “made [him] feel different”, which he describes as his “main goal”.

Harry also wrote about trying magic mushrooms while attending a party at Courtney Cox’s house. At the time, the Invictus Games founder claimed he’d been told the “Scream” actress was “on a job trip” and didn’t care if he stayed with her.
To his surprise, Cox showed up and invited some friends to a meeting where Harry said he spotted a box of “black diamond mushroom chocolates”.

“My mate and I grabbed several, gobbled them up and washed them down with tequila,” Harry wrote before recounting his hallucinations, which included a trash can turning into a head.
“I stepped on the pedal and the head opened its mouth. A huge open grin. I laughed,” he added.
A month after the memoir was published, Cox revealed that she wasn’t the one who provided the prince with the psychedelics.
“I’m not saying there were mushrooms!” The 58-year-old Friends graduate told Variety in an interview published Feb. 27. “I definitely didn’t pass out on her.”
