The Galaxy S22 comes in at almost the same price as the A54, Samsung’s new mid-range

If the Samsung Galaxy S23 has only just launched, its predecessor, the S22 remains a safe bet. The price, which is between 809 euros and 519 euros for SFR and RED by SFR, makes it even more recommendable. That’s just a few euros more than the new Galaxy A54 released today.

Earlier this year, Samsung introduced its brand new Galaxy S23. However, this highly anticipated release does not mean that its predecessor, the Galaxy S22, is already obsolete, quite the opposite. The former flagship of the brand, equipped with a 120Hz screen and good performance, remains a reference that we warmly recommend. And that’s all the more true now that it costs the price of a good mid-range smartphone from 2023.

The highlights of the Samsung Galaxy S22

  • A 6.1-inch OLED panel that refreshes at 120Hz
  • A powerful Exynos 2200 chip
  • A versatile photo module

Originally offered at 809 euros, the Samsung Galaxy S22 will now cost you only 519 euros at SFR and RED by SFR thanks to a reduction doubled by an ODR of 100 euros, valid until April 30, 2023.

An OLED screen that makes little impact

When you say premium smartphone, you (usually) say ultra-clean surfaces. The Samsung Galaxy S22 fulfills this mission with its smooth, fingerprint-resistant glass back, its aluminum edge and its high-quality and very elegant overall appearance. The S22 also has the advantage of being fairly compact with its 6.1-inch screen, a diagonal that allows you to easily slip the smartphone into a pocket.

However, one of the main advantages of this design is still this AMOLED panel framed by very thin borders and equipped with a Full HD + resolution (2,340 x 1,080 pixels). This screen also benefits from an adaptive refresh rate that can reach up to 120Hz, guaranteeing very fluid navigation and viewing. Everything is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, a very resistant glass.

Good performance and a versatile photo module

On the performance side, the Galaxy S22 is powered by an Exynos 2200 SoC engraved in 4nm (and 5G compatible) which offers good performance when multitasking. Powerful applications run smoothly. Unfortunately, the results are not as good in terms of graphics performance and some slowdowns can be expected in certain games like Fortnite. Android 12 promises a very smooth user experience with the One UI 4 interface.

What about his photo skills? It must be said that the Samsung Galaxy S22 scores thanks to its three 50 + 12 + 10 megapixel sensors (wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and x3 telephoto) located on the left edge of the device. The smartphone therefore offers great versatility, with special mention for the good level of detail in the shots captured by the main sensor. In short, we have a good photophone here, even if its dynamic range management is sometimes uneven between different lenses, as we found during our test.

Average autonomy

In fact, one of the only drawbacks of the S22 is its autonomy, as has already been the case with other Galaxy S. In fact, the 3,700 mAh battery will not allow the smartphone to last a full day of intensive use. However, we can take comfort in the fact that fast charging (up to 25W) and wireless charging are on hand, but we must be careful to keep our charger close to you, just in case.
