Apple is expected to introduce four new iPhones in September. Dynamic Island functionality, present on the 2022 Pro and Pro Max models, should be present across the range. In his latest report on the subject, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states that this functionality should have deserved some improvements.
Technically, Kuo expects Apple to decide to add a third sensor within the dynamic island. In addition to the first two devices (one for the selfie camera and one for FaceID), the Apple brand could add a proximity sensor.
This sensor is nothing new as it has already been introduced by Apple, notably on the iPhone 14 Pro. The apple brand simply chose to place it outside of the previous range’s “Dynamic Island” set. As for the iPhone 15 and its versions, Apple could review the internal configuration of the device, particularly with regard to those sensors on the top of the phone.
What is a proximity sensor?
According to information from Kuo, Apple’s supplier (Finisar) for these sensors will still be offering better quality parts in 2023.
The proximity sensor was introduced by Apple a few years ago. In particular, this small device is able to detect when you hold the phone to your ear during a call. If this is the case, the screen will be dimmed. This little feature is the most common use of the proximity sensor used by Apple.
iPhone 15: An iPhone 14 Pro six months late?
Apple should present its new generation iPhone 15 during the month of September. According to various reports, the Cupertino-based company wants to further expand the technological gap between the “classic” version of the phone and the “Pro” and “Pro Max” models.
The iPhone 15 itself could launch with few new features. The only change in size compared to the iPhone 14 Pro is that the Lightning connector is to be abandoned in this new generation and give way to a USB-C connector.
