Díaz Canel wished Pope Francis ‘a speedy and full recovery’

The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, wished Pope Francis a “speedy and full recovery” after being hospitalized for a respiratory infection that required medical treatment for a few days.

Via Twitter, the Pope confirmed the news about his health and assured that he was “moved by the many messages that I have received in these hours.

“I thank everyone for their closeness and their prayers,” he added.

From his room, Pope’s spokesman Matteo Bruni said in a statement: “His Holiness Pope Francis had a good night’s rest. The clinical picture is progressively improving and the planned treatments are being continued. This morning, after breakfast, he read some newspapers and went back to work.

He claimed that before lunch he went to the hospital apartment chapel to pray and attend mass.

On the afternoon of March 29, Pope Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. The test result showed respiratory infection (excluding COVID-19 infection) requiring a few days of appropriate hospital medical treatment.

Future appointments with the head of the Catholic Church were canceled and the Vatican said Francis would remain in hospital for several days for treatment.
