Mara Maionchi recalls the epochal clash with singer Gianna Nannini: The history of the record company is surprising.

After the first collaboration with Ornella Vanoni and Mino Reitano, the real Bolognese accepted the offer of Mogol and Lucio Battisti and settled as press secretary in the newborn record company Number one.

Mara Maionchi then took over the role of editor-in-chief at Dischi Ricordi and discovered the talent of a young woman in 1957 Gianna Nanninito bring them together thanks to an exclusive contract.

Fresh from a wide variety of collaborations with renowned artists, the producer recalled the days of her debut: “Milan was the capital of discography, and not only because there were no labels, but also because the music drew from the theatre, which in turn drew from publishing. Today you can listen to artists in many ways, but back then you had to place them, create spaces for them. Also in promotion. And then the problems started: Mina only wanted the covers, otherwise she would get sad, Lucio Battisti would start playing from 9am until she found the right chord, and before that you couldn’t talk to him…“.

The producer also recalled her walk to Mogol and Battisti’s Numero Uno: “I sort of brought Finardi with me too. Lucio Battisti was one of the people who knocked me out when we first met. There was something simple and complex at the same time. I didn’t always understand talent. For example, I didn’t understand “The Doll” by Patty Pravo right away, I had to listen to it again. Nannini but no, when I heard her play for the first time I was touched…“.
