Nova 11 series: Huawei on the offensive in the mid-range

Huawei has just announced, very discreetly and on its official website, three new smartphones that will take their place in the mid-range. These land less than a month after the announcement of the P60 and P60 Pro, the company’s flagship phones. So three phones – Nova 11, Nova 11 Pro and Nova 11 Ultra – which, if they seem different, have a lot in common.

First of all, the three models have a common basis. They all run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G processor, but only in the 4G version. All three also have a more or less successful green finish. Finally, the Pro and Ultra versions are almost identical, with one exception that we’ll detail below.

Nova 11 Pro and Nova 11 Ultra

The two “Premium” models have a 6.78-inch OLED panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The resolution is 2562 x 1200 pixels and the panel has curved edges. Inheriting the pill-shaped notch from previous Pro models in the range, it houses a 60-megapixel module that’s accompanied by an 8-megapixel module that allows for x2 zoom for self-portraits. A 50 megapixel module adorns the back. The sensor has a variable aperture between f/1.4 and f/4.0. On its side there is an 8-megapixel module, as well as a sensor for capturing colors.

These two versions have a 4500mAh battery with a 100W charging unit. Inside, HarmonyOS 3.0 is responsible for bringing smartphones to life. The Nova 11 Pro has 256 or 512 GB of storage, while the Nova 11 Ultra only offers 512 GB at a price level of between €500 and €700 (after raw conversion). What about the only difference between the two smartphones? Like the P60 Pro, the Nova 11 Ultra has a satellite connection. And that’s it.

The entry door to the range also offers a 6.7-inch Oled panel but retains flat edges. The refresh rate at 120 Hz is also in play. There’s no pill-shaped notch here, but a punch that houses a 60-megapixel module like the Pro and Ultra. On the back we find the same arrangement of modules, with a main sensor of 50 megapixels and an ultra wide angle of 8 megapixels. The Nova 11 simply loses the color sensor.

The battery is also 4500 mAh, but charging is only 66W. Wifi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 or even HarmonyOS 3.0 are obviously involved. The Nova 11 shows a more restrained price, ranging from €300 to €500 (again after raw conversion) with 128, 256 or 512 GB of storage depending on the version chosen.

Pre-orders are already open in China and sales will start on April 26th. We have no information about a possible release outside of Asia. Let’s remember the Nova 10 Pro, presented with great fanfare at IFA 2022, but ultimately never marketed in our latitudes.
