“Dad, Daddy,” 23-year-old Vladimir Popov reportedly yelled as he was attacked by a shark and dragged into the water off the coast, according to horrifying footage of a helpless tourist ashore.
According to Thursday’s The Mirror, the 23-year-old was staying in Hurghada, Egypt, for several months after apparently leaving his country with his father, possibly to avoid conscription into the Russian army.
In the chilling images shared on Twitter, he can be seen in the distance struggling in the water about seven meters from shore, as a shark repeatedly attacks him, according to a witness.
The man is then lifted out of the water with both legs by the beast before finally being brought under the water a few seconds later as a rescue boat arrives on site to help him, amid the panicked screams of onlookers.
According to British media, his girlfriend, who had been in the water with him moments earlier, made it safely to shore.
“The girl was rescued, she cried a lot on the beach. She was so shocked that she screamed,” said another witness.
