“It is certain that there will be more,” says Sports and Entertainment Group of Quebecor’s chief operating officer, Martin Tremblay.
In addition to Nickelback, who rehearsed for a week at the Videotron Center before playing a concert there on Monday night, Celine Dion, Paul McCartney and Pearl Jam have also used the amphitheater as a base camp before embarking on a tour in recent years.
Who will be the next star to imitate her? The name Peter Gabriel comes to mind because of his connections with Robert Lepage and Quebec. The Videotron Center on September 8 is the first stop on his North American tour, which he will present in Europe later this spring.
“I can’t confirm anything on this subject,” Martin Tremblay replied.
Good for tourism
In the eyes of the amphitheater’s owner, the Videotron Center represents “a destination” for artists looking for a place to practice, thanks to its technical capabilities and the experience of its staff.
“It’s our calling card,” says Mr. Tremblay, emphasizing the tourist benefit of being able to host the world premiere of a tour by an internationally renowned artist.
“People came from France and England to see the Nickelback premiere. At Paul McCartney we had people from 18 different countries. People from all over the world were also there for Céline. For the first time, it provides visibility.”
