Ugandan police said the attack was carried out by rebels from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). The organization is affiliated with the Islamic State and is classified as a terrorist by the Ugandan government.

According to police, 25 bodies were found in a secondary school. In addition, authorities said the group set fire to a dormitory and stole food.

Eight other people were injured and taken to a hospital. The ages of the victims were not disclosed.

According to police, a chase has been launched against the group in the region to find those responsible for the attack. The suspects fled towards the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The town where the killings took place is 2 km from the border.

No information on detainees was available at the time of publication of this report.

In April, ADF rebels attacked a village in eastern DRC, killing at least 20 people.
