Lula says he will invite Pope Francis to come to Círio de Nazaré

At an event in Abaetetuba, Pará, President Lula (PT) announced that he would invite Pope Francis to the Círio de Nazaré, one of the country’s most traditional Catholic festivals.

What happened?

Lula goes to the Vatican and said that the meeting with the Pope will take place on Tuesday. The President will leave for Rome, Italy on Monday.

I would like to invite him to come to Brazil again. But I wanted to invite you to come to the Círio party here. It would be extraordinary if he could participate in the Círio de Nazaré here in the state of Pará. It already has an audience. I will invite you and ask for a blessing for all the people of Abaetetuba. Get ready because things are going to happen in this country.

In the speech, Lula said he believes in God and that he was president of the country only because of the poorer population. “If it were up to the elite, I wouldn’t be here.”

Lula asked for the trust and patience of the population. “Things aren’t happening as fast as we want them to.” He said he had three and a half years to do his job.

Promises of lower inflation. Still, Lula celebrated the fall in food inflation and the drop in fuel prices. And he promised new measures in this regard.

I said gas prices would go down. Diesel, meat, food too. They are already downloading and will download more. And we will lower inflation and create more jobs. The Ferris wheel of the economy will turn.

excitement and boos

Abaetetuba Mayor Francineti Carvalho (PSDB) lamented the protests against her. “Everyone knows that I was in the opposition and carried that flag,” he began. “But there was something bigger, something bigger than the party and our personal interests. It was our democracy. This hope has moved me and will always move me.”

Lula replied, “Thank you, Francineti, for supporting my election.”

Helder Barbalho, governor of the state, intervened in defense of the mayor. “Today is not a day to be hostile, it is a day to celebrate in favor of Abaetetuba,” he said. “I ask the people of Abaetetuba, kindly and politely, please listen to the mayor.

It was the first time that Abaetetuba, 126 km from Belém (PA), received a President of the Republic.
