The Flash is in theaters in Brazil and is on course to become one of DC’s biggest failures of recent years, second only to Shazam! God’s Wrath.
Soon, the DC Universe will reboot with a new plan led by new DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, beginning with Superman: Legacy in 2025. Meanwhile, The Flash is a real failure at the box office, eh a problem amplifies the colossal proportions that Warner Bros. are facing.
What are DC’s next releases after The Flash? By 2027, 15 films and series will premiere
The Flash is in Brazilian theaters and isn’t the first or even the last DC release this year. Shazam! Wrath of Gods premiered in March, followed by Blue Beetle in August and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in December. The problem is that all of these films were developed by the previous team at DC before James Gunn and Peter Safran came along and planned to reboot the franchise.
Because these films aren’t part of an old cinematic universe, even if James Gunn’s Blue Beetle has been confirmed as the new DCEU’s first character, this becomes a problem for the studio and the situation worsens with the failure they have at the box office, like Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash.
“Maybe it’s an inevitable but terrible case of timing. “The audience doesn’t feel like they have to put in two hours of their lives because it won’t make a difference going forward,” a source from a competitor studio told Variety. Marketing spend for these four DC movies will total between $1.1 billion and $1.2 billion.
Already released movies include Shazam! “Wrath of Gods” was a massive box office success, grossing just over $133 million worldwide and is available now on HBO Max. To make matters worse, The Flash performs worryingly, has low numbers and has grossed just $141 million worldwide to date (on an estimated budget of around $200 million).
Worlds collide on The Flash as Barry (Ezra Miller) uses his powers to go back in time and change the past. He ends up changing the future while trying to save his family and is trapped in a reality where General Zod (Michael Shannon) is back and threatening to endanger the world with no superheroes to turn to can turn. Unless Barry manages to convince a very different Batman to come out of retirement and rescue a captive Kryptonian.
