More and more whales are reported in the south of La Réunion on the 1st in Reunion on the 1st overseas

Globice notes on his Facebook page: “For a few days activity has intensified in the south with numerous reports of humpback whales from Saint-Joseph to Saint-Pierre.” For Globice “this bodes well for the coming weeks”.

According to Globice, whale season is looking good. On Facebook, the association points out that “activity has intensified in the south for a few days and there have been numerous reports of humpback whales from Saint-Joseph to Saint-Pierre”.

The first whale of the season was also sighted at Marine Langevin in Saint-Joseph on May 15th.

For Globice, these reports of whales in the south are “a good omen for the coming weeks”.

According to Globice, a first humpback whale of 2021 was sighted near the coast of La Réunion on May 16. In 2022 we had to wait until June 25th, but the season was exceptional: 417 people were observed from Reunion Island, a record.

This Thursday, the club also explains that yesterday it had a scare over “the report of a whale involved in a floating FAD, which fortunately has not been proven”.

Last week, Globice had also trained about thirty people in whale disentanglement to intervene if necessary. It is the world’s leading killer of whales: 300,000 whales, dolphins, killer whales, sperm whales, belugas, porpoises and others die every year from contact with fishing gear.
