Durant sees no “big deal” behind the Lillard – Blazer’s Edge trade request

Kevin Durant knows a thing or two about requesting a trade.

Just five months ago, Durant asked the Brooklyn Nets to trade him to the Phoenix Suns for Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and a host of first-round picks.

Now, Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard is taking cues from Durant’s (and many other stars’) playbooks and is asking to drop out after the team failed to trade another veteran who helped him in the championship fight helps.

In a casual Twitter conversation, Durant attempted to provide insight from Lillard’s point of view.

“Fans love the game of basketball, they will carry on just as they do when the organization trades a fan favorite,” Durant tweeted. “When this happens, Portland fans can’t wait to follow the Scoot’s career. I don’t understand what the big deal is [sic].”

Talk about rubbing salt in the wound, KD.

Most Blazers fans are still mourning Dame’s departure from Portland, although it hasn’t officially happened yet. Sure, there are fans who are excited about Scoot Henderson and what he can bring to the team, but that doesn’t mean fans should just “move on.”

Lillard has an emotional impact on fans, and while the league shouldn’t just be about the needs and wants of fans – the NBA would be nothing without its players – that doesn’t mean that loyal fans should be forgotten.

Whether the fans like it or not, Dame has been asking. It’s sad and complicated for many reasons, and it’s a big deal for Lillard considering how many times he’s gone above and beyond to make the end result different. But even if it’s not a big deal for some, that doesn’t mean it’s not a big deal for others.
