For its part, four days after the CEO of the Montreal Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce (CCMM) benevolently called for a boycott, the Quebec Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIQ) has stopped advertising on the social network Facebook.
“The Quebec Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIQ) today announces the temporary suspension of all of its ads on meta-platforms in light of the web giant’s response following the passage of Bill C-18,” its CEO confirmed via email to the journal , Steeve Lavoie, Tuesday.
The Young Quebec Chamber of Commerce (JCCQ) made the same announcement minutes later.
“With this decision, the JCCQ wants to show its support for the media in Quebec and Canada and hopes that a solution will be found quickly to ensure continued access to quality information,” the organization wrote on LinkedIn.
Last Thursday, Le Journal reported that the CCMM was calling for a boycott of Facebook. Yesterday it was Metro’s turn, which includes Super C, Première Moisson, Adonis, Brunet and Jean Coutu, also distancing itself from the meta platform.
Quebec embarks
In the Journal, Quebec Chamber of Commerce CEO Steeve Lavoie said he was concerned about “the impact of Meta’s decision on the media in Quebec and Canada.”
“We want the federal government and Meta to quickly find a solution to this impasse. This is necessary to ensure the accessibility of information,” he stressed.
