Compared to the same period of the previous year, 13.3 million passengers mean an increase of 44.3 percent. However, the figures are still 9.1% below the level of the pre-Corona year 2019. Across the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna, Kosice, Malta), 17.0 million people were transported in the first half of the year. In contrast to Vienna, passenger numbers in Kosice (Slovakia) and Malta are already above pre-pandemic levels.

In Malta, 3.4 million passengers were transported in the first half. This corresponds to an increase of 46.4 percent compared to the previous year and 5.6 percent compared to 2019. In Kosice, 246,086 passengers were transported, 29.5 percent more than in 2022 and 12.9 percent more than in 2019.

The number of local passengers in Vienna increased by 45% to 10.3 million and transit passengers increased by 42.7% to almost 3.0 million. With 103,292 takeoffs and landings, there were 27.5% more than in the first half of 2022. Cargo volume, however, fell by 3.0% to 120,257 tons.

Most passengers traveled to Western Europe

In June alone, 2.8 million travelers (up 18.2%) were served at Vienna Airport, of which around 2.2 million were local passengers and 672,660 were transit passengers. In June, 14.4% more passengers (990,058) flew to Western Europe than in the same month last year.

249,863 people traveled to Eastern Europe (up 11.9%), 45,906 to North America (up 20.9%) and 23,063 to Africa (up 12.8%). 78,329 (49.1 percent increase) flew to the Middle East and 40,154 passengers (302.1 percent increase) to the Far East.
