Maria Reimann was 41 years old, she was on vacation in Sardinia, but the sea of Is Arenas betrayed her and the woman drowned. Her family, who live in Poland, face this moment of great pain with great despair, clinging to one hope: “We would like to speak to the boy who tried to save her.”
The tragedy happened last Thursday. The local woman is traveling with a group of friends. They decide to swim even if the sea is rough. In a few moments she is swept away by the current, she can no longer return to shore, a friend who was with her loses sight of her. The swimmers realize he’s in trouble and sound the alarm. Among the many who come to her aid is a young surfer: he throws himself into the water and tries to reach her. He manages to lift it onto the table and bring it back to shore. Attempts at resuscitation prove unsuccessful, Maria cannot make it.
There is dismay on the beach, and the tourist’s friends are in despair. They find the strength to call the woman’s parents in Warsaw to explain to them what happened.
“Maria,” says the family, “was an excellent swimmer and aware of the risks of the sea, she would never have unknowingly been exposed to sea weather conditions.” We don’t know what really happened, but we would like to know who the boy was who wanted to help her. In particular, the woman’s mother wants to know if Maria said anything and what her last words were.
