Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz, who died suddenly on July 25, was the subject of two memorial services in Chicago this week and among those in attendance to bid him farewell were young forward Connor Bedard and National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman.

As reported by The Hockey News magazine, the two were at a Presbyterian church on Tuesday with former club star Patrick Kane and ex-head coach Joel Quenneville.

Local people attended a private ceremony honoring the man who has served as the team’s president and controlling shareholder since 2007.

A public ceremony was held at the United Center the following day, attended by fans and guests, including players and coaches.

Among the scene’s former hockey players to have their say was Chris Chelios, who played at the Windy City from 1990-99 after being traded from the Montreal Canadiens. Marian Hossa and Brent Seabrook, who won the Stanley Cup in Chicago, also spoke.
