William Trudeau David Reinbachers young mentor

William Trudeau, David Reinbacher’s young mentor

Unlike David Reinbacher, this isn’t William Trudeau’s first experience at the Montreal Canadiens’ rookie camp.

That’s why the Quebec defenseman is playing something of a mentor to the man who was drafted fifth overall in the last draft.

The two young people will also form the first defensive pairing in the first game of the rookie tournament on Friday evening in Buffalo. Trudeau believes they can learn from each other.

“It’s a great role. He is an excellent defender. “I can learn by playing with him, just like he can learn from me,” he said that morning. I developed further in my first year with the professionals. I’m more mature on the ice.

Laval Rocket head coach Jean-François Houle agreed.

“Reinbacher is still a young, learning player. I think pairing him with Trudeau, who has more experience, will help him.”

I’m hoping for a call…

After making a good impression in camp last year, Trudeau held his own in his first season in the American League. It should come as no surprise that he would be recalled by the major club in the event of an injury. That is exactly their goal.

“I remember three great games in the rookie tournament and that continued into camp. I then had a good season, especially after Christmas. The world started talking about me more. I just want to continue to prove myself. I know there are other good young defenders, but I know what I can do. I want to prove that I can be recalled.

To improve his chances of success, Trudeau has worked hard in recent months.

“This summer I worked hard to become a more complete player. I focused on explosion and speed. I have improved since last year.”
