Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the US capital Washington next week. Zelensky will be received by US President Joe Biden at the White House on Thursday, informed sources confirmed today, according to AFP.
Zelenskyy will first participate in the general debate at the UN General Assembly in New York next week, and then travel to Washington. Zelenskyy is likely to seek more US support in the defensive war against Russia. Biden asked Congress for additional aid to Ukraine worth 24 billion dollars (about 22 billion euros), but there is resistance from the ranks of opposition Republicans.
Zelenskyy had already visited Washington in December and delivered a speech to Congress. It was his first trip abroad since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against his country on February 24, 2022. Biden, in turn, made a surprise visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, in February, just before the first anniversary of the beginning of the war and met Zelensky there.
