Newborns were buried in compacted clay in the basement

On Friday night, police found two newborn babies dead in the village of Czerniki, southwest of Gdansk. “They were buried in the basement. There was no floor there, but compacted clay so they could be dug up. The bodies were in various stages of decomposition,” a Public Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson told the Polish tabloid “Fato”. On Saturday night, police were still at the scene of the crime and were looking for possible additional baby bodies, as reported by the PAP news agency.

Father and daughter lived together as a couple for years

According to media information, father and daughter had lived together for years. “She called him Piotr, by his first name. They walked hand in hand. A few months ago he shaved her head so that the other boys wouldn’t run after her,” a woman from the neighboring village told “Fakt”. A video from the news portal shows that the family apparently lived in an abandoned and almost ruined house.

Co-workers suspected the woman was pregnant

The anonymous witness reported that her co-workers had suspected for some time that the woman was pregnant. She wore baggy clothes and apparently wanted to hide her stomach. She took a vacation three weeks ago. When she returned to work after a week, she looked exhausted but dismissed questions about having a child. Someone then informed social services, whose staff contacted the police.
