The public prosecutor’s office in Dabrowa Górnicz, Poland, is investigating 48yearold Bishop Tomasz Zmarzly for allegedly failing to help a man during a sex party in his apartment. The information comes from the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza.

Last week, a group of priests from this southern city organized a party in a residential apartment in the Dabrowa Górnicz parish, where several people, including a sex worker, took drugs.

According to reports, the prostitute lost consciousness and some of those present called an ambulance. However, when the paramedics arrived, they were stopped by Tomasz Zmarzly, who prevented the rescuers from entering.

An investigation was opened against the priest for possible failure to provide assistance to a person endangering his health, a crime that can be punished in Poland with a prison sentence of up to three years.

On Thursday evening, a man set fire to the doors of the parish basilica where the party was taking place and was later arrested. The fire, which was extinguished by the fire department, left no one injured.

The following day, the Diocese of Sosnowiec announced that the bishop in question had been removed from all church positions “until the matter is clarified.” For its part, the Catholic magazine Niedziela reported that it had ended its collaboration with the priest, who was the editorinchief of the edition in the city of Sosnowiec.

In addition, on September 24, a letter was read in all churches of the diocese apologizing for these “painful events” and mentioning “embarrassed priests,” without providing further details.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, several priests in the Sosnowiec diocese claim that they all knew about Tomasz’s sexuality. “We are experts at pretending,” the clergy commented.
