The events took place in a classroom at Hormisdas Gamelin Secondary School in the Buckingham sector.
According to our information, the student was dissatisfied with an instruction from the teacher and went to the front of the classroom to explain her point of view. The teenager is then said to have touched the teacher’s chin and face, so that she turned around, busy writing on the board and with her back to the class and the angry student. At that moment the student is said to have received a punch in the face and the teacher jumped.
Several partially contradictory versions are circulating, particularly regarding the accidental or intentional nature of the gesture. In the last few hours, meetings have been held to clarify the situation.
The Coeur-des-Vallées School Service Center (CSSCV) confirms that an event occurred during an interaction between a student and a teacher.
“The teacher was relieved of her duties during the investigation. The CSSCV will not make any further comments on this incident,” it said.
This is a teacher who works particularly in the first and third secondary levels.
Sources also tell us that class management and the climate were difficult.
For its part, the Outaouais Education Union (SEO) states that it is aware of this incident, but limits its comments since several pieces of the puzzle are currently missing, it emphasizes.
“We are having conversations with those affected to understand what happened,” notes President Nathalie Gauthier, arguing that it is still too early to reach a conclusion.
The SEO also claims that HR informed him that the union member involved in this incident was not relieved of his duties.
There are 1,690 students at Hormisdas Gamelin Secondary School, which is far beyond capacity.
