“What are we going to do when the water comes in?” Even if you take out the mop… If it’s too much, it’s too much,” he sighs helplessly.

Although the water system to which the building is connected is overloaded, the city has granted a building permit to a developer who wants to develop on the neighboring property.

The residents of 1451 Rue Parthenais find it difficult to explain this decision, as the entire shared property has been uninsurable for two years.

“We are no longer insured against sewer backups… anything that happens with water, we are no longer insured,” complains homeowner Daniel Vaudrin.

For Mr. Munizaga, it’s a nightmare. Due to the numerous floods, his house is no longer worth anything.

“Even if I want to sell here today – I ask the mayor – will she come here and buy a property where she will experience this stress every day?” he asks. .

José Munizaga hopes the city of Montreal will step in and “consider a serious plan” to solve the problem.

“We need help,” he says.

When contacted by TVA Nouvelles, the City of Montreal assured that it was closely monitoring the situation and had deployed resources on site.

“We confirm that five suction trucks have been mobilized on site since yesterday evening and two of them are permanently stationed at the corner of Parthenais and Maisonneuve and in the Rouen sector,” she said by email.
