The Blue Jackets would like to get rid of a defenseman

The Jackets acquired guards Ivan Provorov and Damon Severson last offseason. These two, along with Zach Werenski, would not be available on the trade market.

Other Blue Jackets defensemen include Andrew Peeke, Adam Boqvist, Erik Gudbranson and Jake Bean. The Ohio club also has Blue League prospects David Jiricek and Denton Mateychuk. Both first-round picks were recently demoted to the American Hockey League.

Let’s see if Kekalainen is able to make a trade by the Blue Jackets’ first game of the season, which is Thursday when the Philadelphia Flyers visit Nationwide Arena.
