NHL: Jack Hughes impresses against Red Wings

The fact that the New Jersey Devils started the season well with a 4-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday is largely thanks to the great Jack Hughes.

With the two teams tied 1-1 at the end of the second period, Jack Hughes took matters into his own hands by scoring a superb goal to give his club the lead. It was also the first class of the 2019 draft to equalize.

Tyler Toffoli got his first point with the Devils on Hughes’ second goal. Defender Jonas Siegenthaler also had a productive evening on offense with three assists.

For the Red Wings, Alex DeBrincat let the red light shine in its new colors for the first time with the equalizer in the final third. For his part, Jeff Petry’s evening will not go down in history. He spent 18:05 on the ice and posted a -1 differential.

The Kraken and the Panthers are gone

In a close game, the Seattle Kraken suffered their second loss in as many games to start the season with a 3-0 loss to the Predators in Nashville.

Gustav Nyquist scored his first goal for the Preds in the third period. Colton Sissons had previously opened the scoring when he was outnumbered. Juuso Parssinen completed the score in an empty net.

Juusi Saaros recorded his first shutout of the season with 24 saves.

In the game between the Minnesota Wild and the Florida Panthers, Filip Gustavsson also had a big game, stopping all 41 pucks aimed at him in his team’s 2-0 win. Brock Faber and Joel Eriksson Ek were the two goal scorers for Dean Evason’s team.

The stars win in the shootout

Finally, the competition between the Dallas Stars and the St. Louis Blues kept fans on the edge of their seats. It was the Stars who were able to record the 2-1 victory. Dallas rookie Matt Duchene was crucial in his first game as he was the one who scored the game-winning goal in the shootout.

Jamie Benn for the Texas club and Tyler Tucker for the Blues were the scorers of the game.
