Casey DeSmith phenomenal in front of McDavid and the Oilers

For the second time this week, the Canucks surprised the Oilers, this time with a 4-3 victory.

Goaltender Casey DeSmith was relentless in front of the Canucks’ net, producing a brilliant performance of 38 saves, including 15 in the third period.

The former Penguins started things off, as Thatcher Demko is still suffering from a virus.

The game started well for the Oilers as Leon Drasaitl scored the first goal after just 42 seconds. The Canucks got back into the game with goals from Andrei Kuzmenko and Nils Hoglander.

Connor McDavid scored for the first time this year on a power play in the second period. The Oilers captain finished the game with two points. His teammate Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was better with three (1 goal, 2 assists).

Ultimately, it was Sam Lafferty who gave the Canucks victory in the third period with his first goal in the new jersey.

Two minutes too long for the Sharks

Despite 51 saves from Mackenzie Blackwood, the Sharks lost 2-1 to the Avalanche in a shootout.

Thomas Bordeleau scored his first career goal during his first engagement.

Blackwood held the fort for the Sharks as long as possible, but the Avanlache tied the game with 1:26 left when Cale Makar’s shot found the hole.

Mikko Rantanen was the only scorer in the shootout.

In the Sharks’ defeat, Mike Hoffman picked up his first point of the season, while Marc-Edouard Vlasic was ruled out due to injury.

With the Avalanche, Drouin had one shot on goal in 15:23 minutes of ice time.

The hurricanes are playing with fire

They scored the first three goals of the game but ultimately needed the penalty shootout to win. The Hurricanes played with fire in a 6-5 victory over the Kings.

After 14 minutes of play, the Hurricanes led 3-0, took their foot off the accelerator and ensured the Kings got back into the game.

Anze Kopitar sent everyone into overtime when he completed a brilliant pass from Carl Grundstrom with 1:22 to play.

The shootout required nine players per team and ultimately it was Jordan Martinook who settled the debate.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored his first goal of the season in the win.

The Golden Knights are too strong for the Ducks

Thanks to a 4-1 win against the Ducks, the Golden Knights celebrated their third win in as many games.

Vegas dominated the game from start to finish. Jack Eichel scored a spectacular goal late in the first period with just one second left. The American beat every Ducks player before scoring his second goal of the season. See below.

The Golden Knights then extended their lead with goals from Chandler Stephenson and Shea Theodore. Mason McTavish scored the Ducks’ only goal early in the third period.

Jonas Rondbjerg completed the scoring for Vegas with less than three minutes to play. In net, Adin Hill blocked 22 of the 23 shots he faced.
