CNE confirmed that a citizen was arrested under the influence of alcohol with scratched ballot papers for a candidacy Metro Ecuador

During the vote this Sunday, October 15, 2023, the National Electoral Council (CNE) reported that in Palma Roja, Sucumbíos province, a citizen was arrested under the influence of alcohol and with forged ballots.

“Let the full force of the law fall upon him.”said CNE President Diana Atamaint, who condemned the heinous act on the morning of election day.

In addition, he called on the relevant authorities to carry out the relevant procedures and dispense justice where necessary: “We urge relevant authorities to apply the full weight of the law.”

The authority noted that this is the only incident that has occurred so far in the second round of the 2023 early elections.

The National Electoral Council (CNE) opened this Sunday, October 15, the second round of the 2023 early elections, in which 13,450,047 Ecuadorians will vote for the presidential binomial.

In addition, national and foreign parliamentarians are elected in the three special constituencies abroad. Citizens can exercise their right to vote between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Diana Atamaint, President of the CNE, thanked the commitment of the 53,707 members of the National Police deployed throughout the country and the approximately 43,000 members of the Armed Forces who will contribute to the security of the 4,390 electoral districts and 25 election processing centers.
