Megan Petitclerc, who prefers to be called Michael after being diagnosed with gender dysphoria, pleaded guilty last summer to attempted murder, criminal harassment and mischief. When searching the defendant, the police found a knife, two Exactos, a scalpel and a pickaxe.

The 20-year-old called himself a “psychopath” in his letters and said he was ready to take action.

“I have so many bladed weapons in my pockets that I have the choice to dismember people. Maybe I’ll try eating his liver. She is lucky to be my first victim,” read a letter found in the defendant’s pockets on the day of the event.

Megan Petclerc had already been working at Jean-De La Fontaine Elementary School for two months when he showed up to work as usual that morning. As the children were about to leave class, he began wandering the halls looking for specific people. His victims were allegedly chosen because they looked like people he already had a “fixation” on.

At one point he showed a knife and walked away with it, said Detective Lt. Jean-François Lacroix, a Terrebonne police officer, during his investigation into his release. Some children who were about to go outside witnessed the scene and teachers rushed to notify management and authorities.

Code black

Shortly afterwards, a volunteer called him. She decided to follow him outside and tell everyone who passed him that he was armed. During this time, a “Code Black” was triggered within the facility, forcing staff and students to lock themselves down.

Outside, Megan Petitclerc punctured the tires of several vehicles in the parking lot before officers arrested her in a high-risk operation.

Letters containing murderous and extremely violent statements were also recovered from his pockets.
