Celeste Fishbein, 18, had been missing since Oct. 7; The family was warned by the Israeli government

Brazilian daughter and granddaughter Celeste Fishbein Zaaror, who was among the Hamas hostages, was found dead. The information was confirmed by the Israeli government to family members this Tuesday (October 17, 2023). The 18yearold girl had been missing since October 7, when the extremist group invaded the area where she was staying with her boyfriend.

“Celeste’s body was found and identified, the army informed the family directly,” said the teenager’s uncle, Mario Fishbein Power360. According to him, Celeste left a bunker where she was staying and her body was found between the bunker and the Gaza Strip. However, the Israeli government did not say under what circumstances Celeste died or what her body looked like when it was found.

The young woman, who worked as a childcare worker, was at home in Kibbutz Be’er with her boyfriend Dor Haide when the place was attacked by Hamas. According to the Israeli Defense Forces, 199 people have been kidnapped by extremists since the conflict began.

The information that she was among the hostages in Gaza was shared with her family by the Israeli army on October 14, a week after her disappearance. According to Mario Fishbein, the teenager’s body will be released between this Tuesday and Wednesday (October 18).

According to Mario, she planned to obtain Brazilian citizenship and spend time in Brazil. “She recently graduated from college and, with the help of her mother, wanted to obtain Brazilian citizenship and perhaps spend some time in Brazil with her family and her cousin who lives in São Paulo,” he said.
