While the police arrested a man who climbed the Eiffel Tower and temporarily blocked access to visitors there, two lovers decided to meet in the meantime.
Amir Khan had planned to propose to Kat Warren later on Thursday in a Parisian garden, away from the crowds, and also planned a romantic dinner in front of the Seine.
His plans failed.
In fact, Khan changed his mind when the elevators were temporarily closed because of the climber, leaving the couple and others stranded at the top.
An Associated Press journalist was also stuck there and witnessed the scene.

“I didn’t want to miss our dinner and she always wanted me to ask for her hand in marriage on or under the Eiffel Tower. So I said to myself, “This is it, it’s time,” said Amir Khan.
And fortunately, she responded positively.
“There was a good chance I was going to say ‘yes’ right from the start,” Kat Warren said with a laugh.
The climber was found between the second and third floors of the tower, said Alice Beunardeau, communications director for the Paris monument.
A special team of climbing firefighters brought the man down and the police arrested him.
According to Beunardeau, the man was holding a banner of singer-songwriter Billie Eilish.
“I think it was ‘Free Billie Eilish,'” she said. “I’m not sure at the moment, but that would be the message.” [qu’il portait].”
