UN: More humanitarian aid needed for Gaza Strip news

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calls for more humanitarian aid for the civilian population in Gaza. A “humanitarian catastrophe” is currently occurring in the coastal strip, Guterres said today at an international summit in Cairo. Israel is not at the meeting.

Guterres called for “global action to end this terrible nightmare”. There must be “much more” aid for the 2.4 million residents of the Palestinian territory. People need a “sustained supply of relief goods”.

On October 7, Islamic Hamas launched a terrorist attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip, in which more than 1,400 people were murdered. Since then, the Israeli military has attacked targets in Gaza.

King of Jordan sees “violation of international law”

King Abdullah II of Jordan, whose country, like summit host Egypt, has been a mediator in the Middle East conflict for decades, also called for an “immediate ceasefire”. The “relentless bombing of Gaza” is “cruel and relentless at every level,” said Abdullah II.

“It is a collective punishment for a beleaguered and defenseless population. It is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. It’s a war crime.” As the world is silent, this message goes out to the Arab world: “Palestinian lives are worth less than Israeli lives. Our lives are worth less than others.”

President of Egypt: “Right to own a state”

In turn, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi emphasized that the Palestinians also had “the right to their own state”. This demand was also made by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who called for an “end to the Israeli occupation” of the Palestinian territories. “We will never leave. We will never leave our country. We will remain firm in our lands until the end,” said Abbas.
