The meeting, dubbed a “highlevel debate,” will be chaired by Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira. Brazil will temporarily hold the presidency of the Council in October.

In a statement, the Brazilian government said the meeting will be an opportunity for “countries to call for a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors at the highest levels.”

At the same time, Itamaraty reported, Brazil has already begun consultations with the other members of the Council on a proposal from the United States (see details below). O g1 For details about the text, contact the American Embassy in Brasília.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas has already caused thousands of deaths and destruction on both sides of the border. Since October 7, when the terrorist group Hamas attacked Israel, the country has responded with attacks.

Last week, Brazil, as president of the body, tried to pass a resolution in the UN Security Council that would, among other things, open a humanitarian corridor on the GazaEgypt border.

It was argued at the time that the text did not make clear Israel’s ability to defend itself.

The United States is the only country to veto Brazil’s UN war resolution

After the veto, representatives of the Brazilian government contacted representatives of the governments of Russia and France, which also have veto power, to find a solution.

A GloboNewsItamaraty reported Monday that Brazilian diplomats at the United Nations had begun consultations with the other Security Council countries on a new text submitted by the United States.

Blog do Valdo also reported that the Joe Biden administration’s proposal comes at a time when there is an assessment that there is a real risk of expanding the conflict in the Middle East and involving new actors such as Hezbollah and Iran.
