Thanks to Bloomberg’s sources, we have a better idea of the release schedule for Apple’s next AirPods headphones. The company is preparing the transition to USB-C and is expected to integrate other new functions.

After switching to USB-C for the AirPods Pro headphones, Apple should do the same for the rest of its audio range. Finally, the brand has now adopted the universal connection for iPhone, iPad and Mac. There is therefore no longer any reason to keep the Lightning.
That’s good, according to Mark Gurman for Bloomberg, Apple is likely to completely renew its audio range in 2024. With some interesting new features to boot.
Apple AirPods 4: two pairs of headphones
Apple is working on two versions of its next Apple AirPods 4. The aim is to completely replace the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 still in the catalog. The main difference between the two models is that the high-end version offers active noise cancellation.
In terms of design, the headphones would have shorter and more subtle stems. We would still not find interchangeable caps, a special feature of the AirPods Pro.
In both cases, the charging case would switch to USB-C. The high-end model would also receive the “Find My” function, i.e. a small speaker that makes finding the case easier.
Apple AirPods Max 2: small change?
Since 2020, Apple has been marketing a high-end headset called AirPods Max. A new generation would be planned for the end of 2024, 4 years later. The program includes a switch to USB-C for charging and a new, more modern connection chip. Bloomberg also mentions new colors.

Hardly any changes would be expected from this generation, which is rather surprising given the four-year development period.
AirPods Pro 3: not before 2025
If the AirPods Pro (USB-C) include some changes, we cannot completely speak of a new generation. Apple is reportedly preparing a new design for 2025. With this new product, Apple could emphasize health as a new differentiator of its headphones compared to the competition.
