The Rochester Americans responded to the Laval Rocket’s onslaught with even more attack, defeating the Montreal Canadiens’ farm club 7-4 on Friday night at Blue Cross Arena.
These two teams have made a habit of engaging in offensive plays when they compete against each other. Earlier this season, Rochester won 5-4, then Laval responded with an 8-4 victory.

It was a long evening for Jakub Dobes. The visitors’ goalkeeper faced 32 of the Americans’ 38 shots. Mason Jobst was his biggest tormentor with two goals. The striker later completed his hat-trick in an empty net.
The Rocket also knocked on the door, opening twice for Lias Andersson, who took sole possession of the team’s leading scorer with seven goals. The Swede beat Devin Cooley twice with 39 strokes.
The defenders of Jean-François Houle’s team set the tone for this game by giving them a lead in the first period. Mattias Norlinder and Logan Mailloux hit the target. The rocket sat in the driver’s seat for just over three minutes before Jobst took command.
In the win, Buffalo Sabers junior Matthew Savoie scored his first professional goal in his second game. The 19-year-old center was the ninth overall pick in the 2022 draft.
Laval won’t have time to breathe as it faces the Crunch on Saturday in Syracuse.
