A Nintendoone of the most important brands in the gaming world, announced on Tuesday evening (7) the production of a liveaction film The Legend of Zelda. The announcement comes after the success of Super Mario Bros. The Movie, which has already grossed $1 billion at the global box office.

The film is produced and directed in a partnership between Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc Wes Ball (Maze Runner) and production by Shigeru Miyamoto It is Avi Arad (Uncharted, Morbius, Aranhaverso and Ghost in the Shell). The project is cofinanced by the developer and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., which is also handling distribution.

In May of this year, the game’s producers had already expressed their interest in producing it, but the implementation of the project was uncertain. Additionally, the news that the film would be a liveaction film surprised fans, as an animation like Mario, the company’s biggest success, was expected.

The Legend of Zelda franchise is one of Nintendo’s classics alongside Mario and Pokémon. The games are about Link, a brave young elf who, alongside Princess Zelda, must stop the evil Ganon from ruling the world with the help of a powerful magical relic.

Originally launched in 1986, the franchise has already won 19 different games and sold more than 130 million copies worldwide.
