Justin Trudeau downplays British warning that a terrorist attack in Canada linked to events in the Middle East is “very likely.” London recently informed its citizens wishing to come to Canada that “terrorists are very likely to attempt to carry out attacks in Canada.”
When Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre pressed the prime minister for an answer, he refused to comment: “I can’t talk about how the UK makes decisions.”
A Canadian Security Intelligence Agency spokesman told the Globe and Mail that “there is no information to suggest that a credible or imminent terrorist attack is likely,” but added that the war between Israel and Hamas “increases tensions within Canada has increased”.
This can be seen in all major Canadian cities and particularly in Montreal.
Beware of the lone wolf
He added: “CSIS is also aware of the threat posed by individuals, not affiliated with any known group or organization, who independently radicalize and mobilize for violence through media and information consumption.”
In my opinion, this explains the Jewish school shootings and the Molotov cocktail thrown at a synagogue door in Montreal in recent days.
The Jewish-Muslim tensions caused by this terrible war are just beginning, while other intra-community tensions are again in the news in Canada.
New Sikh threats
RCMP and CSIS are investigating recent threats against Air India posted online. A video by the secessionist group Sikhs for Justice, which advocates for Punjab’s independence from India, advises against traveling with Air India after November 19.
The bombing of Air India Flight 182, which took off from Montreal in 1985, killed all 329 people on board, most of them Canadians. The worst terrorist attack in Canadian history. The Indian High Commissioner in Ottawa has called on the Canadian government to ban Sikhs for Justice as a terrorist organization.
The conflict between Sikhs and Indians had already made headlines last September when Justin Trudeau accused Indian government agents of the murder of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia in June, without saying why. An Indian intelligence officer at the embassy in Ottawa was expelled from the country.
The Indian government and media say Canada is a haven for Sikh terrorists. Another Sikh separatist, Sukhdool Singh Gill, wanted for murder in India, was murdered in Winnipeg. Killed by who? Internal conflicts also divide the Sikh separatists.
Canada’s Sikh community, at 800,000 people, is the largest in the world outside India. According to the 2021 Census, Sikhs, who live primarily in Ontario and British Columbia, make up 2.1% of the Canadian population.
Going back to the Middle East conflict, Canada has almost 1,800,000 Muslims and about 330,000 Jews. Both groups are concentrated in Ontario and Quebec.
