Billie Eilish, who spent her youth in the spotlight, has always been discreet about her personal life. Interviewed by diversity, The singer spoke openly about her gender identity and her attraction to women.
Her song “What Was I Made For?”, written for the film Barbie, was recorded by 1.3 million people on TikTok to share her relationship with femininity. For her part, Billie Eilish has always had difficulty identifying with the female gender.
“To be honest, I never felt like a woman,” admits the 21-year-old singer.
“I identify with the pronoun ‘she’ and all that, but I’ve never really felt like a girl,” she explains.
Billie Eilish is known for her relaxed and easy-going clothing style.
“I didn’t want people to have access to my body, even visually. “I wasn’t strong or self-confident enough to show it,” explains the young artist. If I had shown it back then I would have been completely devastated if anyone had commented.”
The media and public have often wondered what the young woman is hiding under her oversized T-shirts and sweatpants. But she was never afraid of being sexualized. “Maybe because I never felt wanted or desirable,” she says.
Attracted and intimidated by women
This complicated relationship that Billie Eilish has with femininity also has consequences for her relationships with women, reports Variety. For a long time, the young singer assumed that other women didn’t appreciate her because she “had difficulty understanding them.”
That doesn’t mean she doesn’t appreciate them.
“I love her so much [les femmes]. I love them as people. “I’m attracted to them as people,” she says. I’m physically attracted to them, but also intimidated by their beauty and their presence.”
Billie Eilish has only been publicly in relationships with men, including musician Jesse Rutherford, from whom she separated last May. When asked about her sexual orientation in 2021 by Elle, the singer then explained that her sexuality is no one’s business.
