French singer Renaud will honor Karl Tremblay on stage: “I cried when I found out about his death”

PARIS | Frenchman Renaud is saddened by the death of Karl Tremblay and will pay tribute to the Cowboys Fringants singer at his concerts in Quebec next spring.

“I cried when I heard of his death; I knew he was sick, I thought about him a lot. “I’ve been listening to all the Cowboys Fringants albums for several months,” admits Renaud.

It was he himself who discussed the death of Karl Tremblay during a meeting organized with Le Journal in a café in the 6th arrondissement in Paris. The Cowboys Fringants singer died last Wednesday after a battle with prostate cancer.

On Renaud’s shoulder

Renaud would like to honor his memory by including the piece “On My Shoulder” in the program of his concerts planned in Quebec next spring. The icon of French song will come here after an absence of more than 15 years as part of his Dans Mes Cordes tour, which began in France earlier this year.

During his last visit to La Belle Province in 2007, Renaud met Karl Tremblay and his gang. He then performed at the Quebec Summer Festival in the Plains, warming up the crowd before the Cowboys Fringants took the stage.

“I didn’t know her repertoire back then, but I loved this singer straight away, he was a great guy. The lyrics, the music… everything about the Cowboys Fringants songs touches me very much. I even had my tickets to see them in France next March,” says Renaud.

America is crying… and so is France

Therefore, it is not just America that has been crying since the announcement of Karl Tremblay’s death. The echo spread to France, where the Cowboys Fringants were originally scheduled to perform in 2024. Across the country, fans and survivors flooded society networks with testimonials and tributes, organizing gatherings in various public places.

Among other things, singer Gauvain Sers used his Facebook and Instagram accounts the day after his death to pay tribute to the Quebecer.

“Since last night I feel like a little part of me has been taken away. Having a hangover without drinking a single drop […]. Karl was a beast of the stage. A voice that sends shivers through your body. He went to the Shooting Stars, we already miss him, but I bet that he will put on the best show in the singer’s paradise,” the Frenchman told his around 225,000 subscribers.

  • Singer Renaud will present his tour In my ropes in Montreal, Quebec, Gatineau, Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts and Trois-Rivières from May 14th.
