Saturday’s clash between TCU and Georgetown came down to the wire as the Horned Frogs secured an upset win thanks to a remarkable – and controversial – buzzer-beating shot.

Georgetown led 83-81 with just 2.7 seconds left and TCU needed to put the ball in play and score to tie or win the contest.

Somehow, TCU spun the ball across midcourt, where forward Emanuel Miller dribbled toward the three-point line and spun the ball toward the basket.

The buzzer sounded just before Miller’s shot hit the backboard and went into the basket, winning the game for TCU and drawing wild cheers from the visitors.

His teammates stormed onto the court in celebration as the Washington DC crowd fell silent, stunned.

More drama ensued when replays showed that Miller had stepped with his left foot toward the right sideline just before releasing the ball.

The officials reviewed the play, but because they had missed Miller going out of bounds in real time, they were not allowed to reverse the shot by rule.

Miller’s late-game heroics led to a 29-point performance. The senior also had five rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes of play.

In his fourth year with the Horned Frogs, Miller is averaging 13.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 51.6 percent from the field.

TCU is off to a good start this season – with this win, the Horned Frogs lead the Big 12 with a record of 7-0.

The last two seasons the Horned Frogs participated in the NCAA Tournament, but were repeatedly eliminated in the second round. The program continues to improve, having made a total of three tournament appearances since 1990.

TCU will look to continue its winning streak when the team takes on Clemson on December 9th.
