A court in Russia has confirmed that Alexei Navalny was transferred to a correctional facility outside the Vladimir region. This was reported by the independent news agency Sota. The dissident, who is serving a 19-year sentence, had not been heard from for nine days, so his transfer from penal colony No. 6, in the town of Melehovo, had become a real detective story.

It is known that transfers from Russian prisons take a long time, sometimes weeks, and it is not possible to contact the prisoners or obtain information about their whereabouts. Navalny was serving a 19-year prison sentence on extremism charges at Penal Colony No. 6, about 230 kilometers east of Moscow. He should be transferred to a “special security” penal colony, a facility with the highest level of security in the Russian penal system.
