Princess Leonor appeared to be in her element as she completed military exercises in the snow-capped mountains of Spain.

The Queen, who celebrated her 18th birthday in October, was pictured braving the freezing temperatures in Astún this morning before hitting the slopes.

When she arrived at the ski resort in the Pyrenees, the future queen wore a zip-up camouflage jacket with the Spanish flag sewn onto the sleeve.

Leonor's military uniform also consists of green pants and a matching hat.

The queen tied her long hair into a bun and tucked most of it into the back of her jacket.

She was also seen carrying a large camouflage backpack and brown suede hiking boots for the outing with her peers.

The Queen was later pictured wearing a helmet as she took ski lessons with the group.

During this activity, Leonor wore a black helmet and skis before heading to the ski lift with her heavy backpack.

The future queen was in particularly good spirits as she happily posed for a group photo.

The trip to the mountains is part of Leonor's training at the Zaragoza Military Academy.

Following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather, the Queen enrolled at the academy in August and completed a three-year course.

When she first arrived at the academy, Leonor completed a module designed to help her adjust to military life – with the palace releasing pictures of the king attending classes in the classroom.

According to heraldo.es, she lives in a cabin with up to twelve other students and was given basic military equipment before the first training session.

During her three years at the academy, Leonor is entitled to a salary of 417 euros per month. However, the palace said she would not claim the salary.

Similar to a boarding school, the military academy follows a strict schedule during the week. But Leonor can return home on weekends when she is not on maneuvers.

Leonor completed her International Baccalaureate at UWC Atlantic College in the Welsh county of Vale of Glamorgan in May.

After training at the General Military Academy in Zaragoza, equivalent to Sandhurst in Spain, she will attend a naval school and complete her three years at the General Air Academy.

In July, the Princess showed her excitement about soon becoming a cadet at the Princesa de Girona Foundation awards ceremony in Girona, Catalonia.

She said: “I have just graduated from high school and am about to start a new phase with military training.”

Princess Leonor's latest appearance comes at a particularly turbulent time for the Spanish royal family – after Queen Letizia's ex-brother-in-law sensationally claimed to have had a relationship with the royal family both before and after her wedding to King Felipe.

Jaime Del Burgo, 53, who currently lives in the UK, recently contributed to a tell-all book about the Spanish royal family, in which he made the far-fetched claim that they were still romantic after Letizia's marriage to King Felipe in 2004 would have had a relationship.
