Cold case solved, remains of girl who disappeared in 1970 identified

AGI – The remains found nearby in 1986 Lake Tahoe, between Reno and Sacramento, Californiathey now have a name: Donna Lass. 53 years after the 25-year-old nurse's disappearance, the mystery is at least half solved.

She had been up there last seen on September 7, 1970, accompanied by a young man with blonde hair. The two showed up in front of her apartment. No one had seen her since then. Her family was unable to contact her. The appeals in the newspapers were unsuccessful. A few months later, in 1971, the girl was officially declared “missing.”

The photo of the face remained in the offices of hundreds of police stations across the United States for a long time. Fifteen years after the last sighting, human remains, including a skull, were found along Highway 20. The remains were kept at the police morgue in Placer County, California, at all times.

The use of new DNA technologies finally allowed us to give the remains a name. However, the cause of death remains unknown. South Lake Tahoe police asked anyone who recognized the victim, whose image was taken shortly before his disappearance, to provide information that might help understand the events more than half a century ago.
