A Danish container ship was attacked twice in 24 hours in the Red Sea, according to the US military. This morning the military responded to a second emergency call from the “Maersk Hangzhou”, announced the responsible US regional command on X (Twitter). The crew reported a new attack by Yemeni Houthi rebels.
The pro-Iranian group attacked the ship with small arms from four small boats. It was said that the rebels came within 20 meters of the Danish container ship and also tried to enter the ship. A security team on board shot at the rebels.
The US Navy sank several of the boats
According to its own information, the US military also responded. US helicopters sank three of the four attack boats. His crew was killed. The fourth boat fled. There was no damage or injuries on the US side.
The US military said it had already shot down two anti-ship ballistic missiles belonging to Yemen's Houthi rebels in the southern Red Sea. The US Navy had already responded to an initial request for help from the “Maersk Hangzhou”, which was hit by a missile yesterday. However, the ship was seaworthy. No injuries were reported.
Since the start of the war in Gaza, the Iran-aligned Houthis have repeatedly fired rockets at Israel and attacked merchant ships in the strait off Yemen.
